2007 Accomplishments

2007 Accomplishments:

- Collected over 1,100 signatures to "Fix the Paths" along the Charles River. This year, DCR has repaved two of the worst sections on the Boston side - west of Arsenal St., and between the BU Bridge and River Street. While we can't take all the credit for bringing this about, the report we did in 2006 helped the DCR identify and prioritize these as some of the worst sections in need of repair.

- Provided important input to the Mayor of Boston's new Boston Bikes Initiative - Including helping conduct the three-day "Boston Bikes Summit" in October; providing input on key bicycle routes, streets that could potentially be restriped for bicyclists, locations where bike parking is needed, and other "easy" infrastructure fixes; volunteering to assist City with surveying streets and parking; and beginning to work with the City and other advocacy groups to coordinate and expand our bicycling education efforts.

- Advocating for better bicycle accommodations in infrastructure projects, including the Harvard-Allston Master Plan, Commonwealth Avenue in Boston, Market Street in Allston-Brighton, and Magoun Square in Somerville.

- Initiated the "MassBike Spins" monthly ride series.

- Conducting a follow-up survey of road hazards in Cambridge. We discovered that over half of the problems we identified in our survey in fall of 2006 were fixed!

- Chapter members supported MassBike statewide initiatives including the roll-out of bike racks on MBTA buses, the Bicycle Safety Bill, and outreach to expand MassBike membership at EarthFest, AltWheels, and other events.

- Saw the release of the Massachusetts Bicycle Transportation Plan and the MAPC's Regional Bicycle Plan, to both of which the chapter provided important contributions.
